I wanted a soft carrier that did not sit ON TOP of my roof and a hard case is pretty expensive and bulky. I already had the rack for my bike and this was the perfect option. It fits on the bars keeping it off my roof and not scratching it up. It's easy to install, it rolls up for easy storage, light weight, yet durable enough to handle the weather when it's on the car. I have a small car and this carrier fits and still has enough room for my bike next to it. It doesn't cost as much as a hard case and again, you can store it anywhere when you are not using it unlike a hard case. Mine is rolled up behind a couch right now. Try that with a hard case. Yes, it's a little more than a "bag", but with a firm bottom you won't worry about the damage to your roof top. I can't say enough things about this item.
